​Captain Cowboy is London based artist and filmmaker Paul Vernon's label consolidating his photography, original books, writing and archive of internationally selected award-winning short films he directed; brought together into one destination of artworks and active projects.

The beginnings of CapCow came in 2018 when Paul found himself rummaging through images and carefully assessing his unpublished photography, which had become somewhat neglected due to focus on working as a filmmaker, he reached the conclusion he had a breadth of untapped visual work to re-connect with. With the realisation that his sentiments and thinking processes were more akin to an artist and less a traditional filmmaker to which he'd been accustomed, Paul embarked on a new creative phase that blossomed as he sifted through the pictures, writing about them and categorising, sequencing prints, uncovering fresh projects and a new curiosity to work with different formats. Out of that process came the personal photobook The Light That's Lost in 2020 which was Paul's inaugural self-published book and the first of a planned series called Candlelight Flavoured Bubblegum. The following year in 2021 he published a second book Strange Space which was architecturally focussed.

​First Exhibition in 2022 was Paul's three day debut solo show. A photographic exhibition and mixed media installation at the Documentary Media Centre in Leicester, it incorporated immersive film screenings of The Divine Visions of Hildegard von Bingen (2018), his Watercolours photo series exhibited for the first time as fine art quality prints and instant film pictures.

​Following on from a USA based virtual exhibition in 2023, Paul was invited to be part of the first Unearth Art Collective. It brought together a small group of artists from the UK, USA and United Arab Emirates working towards the creation of a digital garden with continual conversation around philosophies and positive / negative impacts of modern technology which culminated into the overall theme of tech connecting to nature. From out of this framework Paul's contribution was a new film Spirit which screened privately at the climax of the residency to fellow artists but is currently unreleased.

Works have continued to be presented from 2024 to 2026 at group exhibitions DocSpace and DocPhoto, including the original elements of a newly formed museum and beginnings of other bodies of work.

Prior to Captain Cowboy Paul made films of dance, documentary, experimental and fiction which were selected at the ICA for London Short Film Festival, Zealous X exhibition in Oxo Tower Wharf, "Best of Fest" program at San Diego Comic-Con and at the LACMA for Los Angeles International Children's Film Festival. His films screened in countries such as Mexico, Germany, South Africa and India with his commissions including Filthy Lucre supported by Arts Council England and the Danish Arts Foundation. He has MA and BA degrees in filmmaking from The Northern Film School in Leeds and was born in Leicester.
