Welcome to Paul Vernon's independent arts brand.
I am a visual artist as a photographer and director / shooter / editor of films screened places including Artists Forum Festival of The Moving Image in New York, LACMA and ICA for London Short Film Festival. Two years ago I began assessing my archive of unpublished photography and I started mixing these with current projects / thinking I'd been developing; from this came new creations such as the Candlelight Flavoured Bubblegum book series, of which the first was released in January 2020: The Light That's Lost. Entering a new phase of my artistic work, having began in films, I had moved into writing, publishing and designing books and beyond.
The brand of Captain Cowboy was created to unify my work and bring together ideas and mediums into one personal artistic output under one banner. A community discovering my work is building on the new @cap.cow Instagram page, on which I also share a mosaic of books and films amongst my own creations. Named after a character created in front of my camera by my sister in the award-winning documentary A Film By Abigail, very nearly nominated for a United Nations Women Award in Hong Kong (!) but that's a whole other story...
